Land Rover has shelved the SV Coupe for good

- The SV Coupe was shelved even before it hit the production line.
- The British marque has chosen to divert resources towards regular production models instead.
Land Rover has axed the gorgeous looking SV Coupe for good. The exclusive ultra-luxury two-door SUV was showcased at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show and was supposed to enter production this year in limited numbers. But the British marque has decided to divert its resources towards regular production models which include the new-gen Discovery Sportand the resurrected Defender.
The SV Coupe was supposed to be the first car to be built from the ground up by JLR’s Special Vehicle Operations. SVO had built a bespoke body for the SV Coupe. It was powered by the same 5.0-litre supercharged V8 and was set to be the most expensive and exclusive Range Rover ever made. With a production plan of just 999 units, the two-door SV was to use the platform of a standard Range Rover. But it was designed in such a way that it only shared the bonnet and lower half of the tailgate with the standard car. The SV Coupe was also supposed to be the first Range Rover to sit on 23-inch wheels from the factory.
With this Coupe, JLR had plans to take on the new-crop of opulent SUVs such as the Bentley Bentayga, Rolls Royce Cullinan, and the upcoming Aston Martin DBX. But now that the plans for ultra-expensive two-door SUV have been canned, we can look forward to the new generation Range Rover that is set to arrive in 2021. And ahead of that, there will be an all-new Defender 4x4 revealed this year. Both cars will benefit from the additional budget accrued as a result of axing the SV Coupe.
